Photography and Narrative - Animals and Human Interaction. February 2013

The purpose of these photographs is to captured the innocence of the animals with a touch of some manmade background. The main reason that I chose animals as my subject is because they are honest models whom never pose or want to steal attention.

Title Sequence - “Lady Meng” . December 2012

This moving image is about a Chinese goddess named Lady Meng. She serves tea to dead people in the underworld. The tea erases all their memories which allows them to start in a clean slate. However, they will get punished for their earthly sins. The choice of the music is to show calmness, as stereotype Chinese often found this goddess frightening due to her connection with death. Even though my tune is not as dramatic as it supposed to be it has a mood of relaxation and farewell.

Staff Rotation Project - “Dirty Money” . November 2012

Our Staff Rotation this year is more about image based. In this project I chose “Dirty Money” as my subject, my final is a moving image. The film is about a gambler who needs to sell drugs to pay off his debts and he got an emotional breakdown after his realisation. Fragile is my chosen key word for my film, therefore shows the gambler’s mentality according to his actions. The element of dirtiness and loneliness was added to the moving image as well.

Dirty Money (Reprise) is my second attempt at the Staff Rotation Project. In this edition, I changed the filter to B&W as well as the soundtrack. Even though both of the films are similar in terms of the theme and clips used, they show two different sides of a coin.

Hand Made Books - All Around the world . November 2012

In this project we were told to investigate the meaning of self-publishing and batch production. The budget given for five books were limited to a pound each. My books basically have the same content but different presentations. My aim is to present the country and its culture and personality. Here are three of my favorite ones which I have converted to posters.

The Form of the Book - Cognitive Dissonance . November 2012In the brief we were asked to design and produce a book, as well as to explore the relationship between form and content through the given subjects. Cognitive Dissonance is my chosen subject. After creating a book I have converted it to a poster as I prefer a two dimensional option when it comes to tumblr, thus making it easier to digest.

Sequence - Frankenstein: The Creature’s Speech . October 2012

“Frankenstein: The Creature’s Speech” was a short film I made for my sequence project. My film is based on the novel “Frankenstein” by Mary Shelly. The whole film was based on a monologue of the creature, my chosen scene was set on top of the mountain, when Frankenstein has abandoned him for many years after creating him. The purpose for this video is to tell the story with the narrative from the creature and it is also my defense for the creature, as I always felt for him.

Sequence - Frankenstein: The Creature’s Speech (Book) . October 2012

Beside the short movie I have also link my book with its captions to add understanding to the audience as the content of the film is not necessary to give the story away but the mood.

Print week - Printing is the Global Language . October 2012

For this project, I cut out stencils of the countries’ names and put stamps according to their respective cultures. I used potato stamps for Europe and leaves prints for Africa.

Typographic Experience . September 2012

My final of this project is a map based on the London tube map from Beck and inspiration is taken from the Trnsprtntion Maps by the Fadeout Design. Stencils are my chosen font because it gives a quality of footsteps with its gaps. The orange types that are highlighted are the running track in my 5 minutes audio. The text is taken from a book named “Get Some Head Space”. The purpose is to illustrate meditation while running. This poster also had a second meaning which is mediation as I meditate during my runs and when I run thoughts pass through my head, like in this map text passes through the orange line. The choice of colours is to highlight my running experience and the orange is to give connection to my meditation book as orange and black are the principle colours of the cover.

Brighton Tube Map - From the map of Brighton I created a hypothetical tube map.

Run (GIF) - These images are taken from my footprint experiment trying to show the movement when leaving a footprint on the floor, and also to give the type an urban feel and a mood of dirtiness.

Visual Signifier - “The Attraction of Fear” by Alfred Hitchcock . August 2012

Cut
The image of the person self-harming illustrates the fear of reality that is relieved by the pleasure gained by the release of endorphins when the arm is cut. Through the cut I have put a marijuana leaf reflecting the drug-like aspect of the endorphin release.

Circus of Fear
This drawing is to represent the excitement and fear in a circus. Audiences paying to watch performers doing dangerous acts and wild animals groaning and jumping through the fire loops. These experiences are like walking towards the mouth of the tiger.

Dare To Dream . June 2012

These posters are inspired by my dreams.

Fear - My Tomato Nightmare was a nightmare I had about my dad tying me up on a chair. There was also a metal tube with a bunch of tomato inside the tube which I am allergic to. He kept pressing the button to shoot those tomato in my mouth. I was in tears and screaming for help but he ignores my warning.

Distance - This poster is about those dreams that brought me back to Hong Kong, my home town. Hence the reverse of UK and Hong Kong are used in the imagery. The compositions of both location are similar as well as filters give the atmosphere a mood of fantasy.

Creep . April 2012

With these photographs I attempt to show that in this society our true souls are often hidden, because most people are not interested in them and all they can see is just the appearances. The balloon represents appearances and the boy illustrates true soul. I was playing around with the contrast of the view of society and the truth. Inspiration is taken from the song “Creep” by Radiohead.

“Shame”, Movie Poster . March 2012
Shame is a film about sex addiction. Overall the poster gives out a clinical kind of feel and sinfulness. Symbols are converted from the notes of the movie.
